Native Floridian Vanessa Lafaye came to Britain almost 30 years ago, looking for adventure – and found it. After a long career in academic publishing, her first novel, ‘Summertime’ (Orion UK and as ‘Under a Dark Summer Sky Sourcebooks US), is published this year. It fictionalises the deadly Labor Day hurricane of 1935, which devastated the Florida keys. Norwegian, French, Italian, Dutch, and German editions are under way. It is in the Richard and Judy WH Smith Book Club for Summer 2015. She lives in Wiltshire with her husband and 3 furry children, where she also leads the local community choir, while slowly working her way towards book 2. Read more.
