The James Reckitt Reading Room at Hull Central Library is a real gem. This beautiful place, lined with ceiling-high rich wood bookcases, once housed the original reference library. An old clock is often stuck on the same time, giving the place real feeling of belonging to the past. It is a place where many readings and literary events take place, a nook large enough for a small audience to feel close to whichever writer is sharing their words there. Having heard many a reading here, I was delighted to take part in the Humber Mouth Festival last year, and share some of my own work in that very special place.
