Summer is the season of Hollywood Blockbusters and it is in this frivolous spirit that The Prime Writers give way to the dream and have a go at casting their novels as films. Throughout the month of August Prime Writers will be putting forth their ideas. It will be interesting to see whether readers agree with our choices in casting beloved characters.
The year is 1955 and something is very wrong with the world. It’s fourteen years since Churchill died and the Second World War ended. In occupied Europe, Britain fights a cold war against a nuclear-armed Nazi Germany.
In Berlin the Gestapo is on the trail of a beautiful young resistance fighter, and the head of the SS is plotting to dispose of an ailing Adolf Hitler and restart the war against Britain and her empire. Meanwhile, in a secret bunker hidden deep beneath the German countryside, scientists are experimenting with a force far beyond their understanding.
Into this arena steps a nameless British assassin, on the run from a sinister cabal within his own government, and planning a private war against the Nazis.
Now the fate of the world rests on a single kill in the morning…
Male Protagonist Un-named assassin – Clive Owen
The protagonist of A Kill in the Morning is a man emptied of emotion and ideals by years of brutal combat in the shadows. He’s a precision machine built for killing, unsentimental and unemotional, but with a small core of humanity. He’s driven by a deep hatred of the Nazis and a need to take revenge for his fallen comrades, whatever the cost.
1st Female Protagonist: Molly Ravenhill – Cate Blanchett
Driven to hatred of Germany by the events leading to her mother’s death, Molly worked for the British intelligence services for over a decade as a sabotage group leader. Forced to retire from active duty when she turned forty she is desperate to get back into the fight and angry with the male-donated British establishment that’s holding her back.
2nd Female Protagonist: Kitty Geisler – Karen Gillan
Kitty is a member of the German resistance, constantly on the run from the Gestapo. The daughter of murdered parents, she inherited their hatred of the Nazis along with their pacifist beliefs. Brave, but terrified by the overwhelming force of the Nazi state she believes her symbolic resistance is a moral imperative that is likely to end only in her death.
Antagonist: Reinhard Heydrich – Detlef Bothe
Heydrich is the head of the German Secret Service, and plotting to eliminate the few remaining obstacles to becoming Führer of the German Reich. Ruthless, amoral, and master of the deadly SS, he is capable of anything in his quest for power.
